MEDITATION
for
CHITTA VRATTI NIRODHAH


Sit in a comfortable pose - crossed legged or in a chair -- sthir sukhasanam. Close your eyes and take three deep breaths. While exhaling, feel your body becoming lighter and lighter. At the end of third breath, feel relaxed deeper and deeper, totally relaxed from the head to tips of your toes.

Now, relaxed and with your eyes closed , just watch your breath __ breathing in, breathing out __ naturally. Do not change the speed of your breath. Do not hold your breath for longer than natural duration. Do not do any pranayama. Just breath naturally and watch your breath.

While you are watching yourself breathing in, join the tips of all fingers with the tip of the thumb in your both the hands and while watching yourself breathing out, spread the fingers of your hands. Also utter internally Yajurveda Mantra 'So' while breathing in and 'Aham' while breathing out.

Do it for 1 - 5 minutes in one sitting, at least once a day.

In case of difficulty in pronouncing 'So' and 'Aham' , you can utter first half of your own name while breathing in and second half of your name while breathing out. Found equally effective in calming the mind __ for Chitta vratti nirodhah.

By this simple and highly effective meditation, the count of breaths in one minutes decreases, which results in quality life and prolonged life since we are given a fixed number of breaths to live on this Earth Planet and not the days, months or years.During this meditation, we take lesser number of breath and thus save our breaths. Pulse rate also decreases, however, no need to worry if you are doing it correctly. Feeling uncomfortable at any time during the meditation, you can discontinue it.
